About Cover for Work
Cover for Work explains business insurance for people who run small businesses in the United States: contractors, cleaners, salon owners, food truck operators, consultants, dog walkers and everyone else who works for themselves.
Most insurance content is written for every business at once. That makes it vague. A handyman and an IT consultant face different risks, different client contracts and different state rules. So we organize everything by trade, and each guide answers one specific question that owners in that trade actually ask.
What we are, and what we are not
- We are an independent information site.
- We are not an insurance company, agency or broker. We do not sell policies, collect quotes or pass your details to anyone.
- We are not licensed to give insurance, legal or tax advice. Our guides explain how things generally work and point you to the official sources. For a decision about your own business, talk to a licensed agent in your state.
Editorial team
Guides are published under the name Cover for Work Editorial Team. We don't attach invented names or credentials to our work. The team prepares guides with the help of AI tools and checks them against official sources before they go live. The full process is described in our editorial policy.
How we make money
The site is free to read. In the future we plan to show clearly marked display advertising. Advertisers will never decide what we write, and we will update this page and our privacy policy before any ads appear.
